Such atmospheric photographs. I have an OM Trip which gives a similar lightweight, fuss-free and enjoyable experience. I must take it for another spin.
One of the reasons I love using film in general, is because it reduces the amount of editing in Lightroom. I found out that I am a perfectionist through digital in Lightroom. I never reached a finished image. So with the film I set myself boundaries of exposure and white balance.
Haha, your wife is probably right (Aren't they all?). I think these leaks add so much to the photos. I keep looking at them. And I totally agree on the lack of feature part. Slowing down and paying attention is always good.
I like the light leaks - they add more character to the photos a little like the Holga and Diana's do. I've got an Ollie Trip that I take out now and then for fun - it certainly makes me slow down.
Thank you, Lin. We should do an analog photo walk with all the photographers on Substack, virtually, but at the same time, and then post our photos a week later. Could be a book.
This is just awesome!! and I might sound a tad like your wife. All I could think was "ooooo light leak! open the back every time!" (maybe not every - but sometimes!) - I remember that feeling of the rewind. I need to get out my old Yashica.
i was out last week, finishing up a roll on my shadow project. A scene began to emerge in front of me that I was anxious to capture. So I quickly opened up the camera to change the film...but without first rewinding. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Let's just say that my light leaks weren't as gentle to the eye as yours! Nothing like muscle memory to keep this from happening, but muscles take time to form memories. I'll eventually get there.
They were more emulsion genocides than light leaks. Out of the 36, 4 survived in some fashion, but the over exposure was overwhelming and I tossed them. Gone into the dustbins of history. I'll be sure to save them for you next time.
You know the wife is always right…
I love the light leaks. Imperfect little mistakes like these are so interesting to me
Thank you, Susanne! My wife sends you her personal thanks for your support❤️

Thank you, Andrew! Would love to see your photos after you take your OM Trio for a spin.

Thanks, Liam. I completely agree. I just have to learn how to develop film at home. It’s getting expensive out there 🥲
Ah yeah do it asap, it’s easy

Thanks very much, Marcel. I guess I’ll have to yield to the fact that wives are always right.😍
I have a an Agfa Click and a Clack. When i need some low stress fun, i load one of them with film.
Thanks, Christian. Would love to see some.

The light leaks worked out really well!

Thanks, Mark! Can you share your light leaks?

It’s a great reminder that film photography requires patience and that mistakes are part of the process.
Indeed. Thanks for reading and commenting.
Lovely story and the light leaks aren't so bad! I've definitely torn a roll in a camera before.
Thank you, Hanz.
Thank you, Caroline!
