Great to tagalong with you there Alex. I'll admit to never photographing any orthodox Jewish communities--whether in Borough Park, Williamsburg, or Crown Heights (though I live here). Not on any determined photographic walk through. It's one of those times I'd feel and look too obvious. So I've not done so.
I remember that one time I visited New York. My husband and I were just strolling around and found ourselves in that neighborhood on a Saturday afternoon. I felt so out of place and tried hard not to stare at the people, who looked so different to me.
Interesting way to spend a Saturday. How do they keep those hats on their heads?
The hat is like a car tire, it keeps their posture rod-straight.
“Hey, your shoelace is untied…” and, off it comes!
Thanks for taking us a long! I have always been curious and fascinated with the Hasidic community and how they live their lives.
Thank you very much, Manuela!
This is just great.
Thank you, Glenn.
Fantastic piece and photos, as always. Truly a world that many outsiders don't know.
Thank you, Jim.

They don't like being photographed, but they appreciate being stared at. I wish it was the other way around, for obvious reasons.
