Good question, sir. There were a few well-known femail Russian writers in the late 19th, early 20th century. Unfortunately, they weren't well known in the West. However, there were two word-renown femail Russian poets -- Marina Tsvetaeva and Anna Akhmatova. The former is one of my all-time favorite poets, in any language. I'm embarrassed to say she'd slipped my mind when I was writing that post. My bad. I will add her to the post. Thank you for reminding me.
Believe it or not, I have never read any Chekhov or gone to any of his plays, anywhere. They were planning to stage 'Uncle Vanya' near here at a local playhouse but the flooding nixed that for now.
You can right the wrong by simply reading Uncle Vanya. Chekhov is worth to be read.
Or better yet, watch Vanya on 42 Street, the Louis Malle film with Andre Gregory and Wallace Shawn. It's terrific!!! Adapted by David Mamet. You can watch it here for free.
Great stuff. Are there any famous female Russian writers?

I'll have them both up.

The quality isn't great, but it's better than nothing when you're in a pinch. :)
