Once again Alex, you've penned a well written piece with fantastic photos. And you reminded me I need to re-watch 'The Last Picture Show' and 'Throne of Blood', old favorites for me. As a retiree, I have to keep my watch list full of ideas.
„I photograph fog because it complicates things.“ It is funny, because I always thought it does the opposite. That itmakes a scene less complicated because it usually takes away a lot detail especially the background. But of course, it makes a photo more mysterious because of the missing details and it raises more question or sparks your imagination in a different way, than a photo without fog. Interesting!
Thank you, Susanne. Yes, you’re correct that it makes the scene less cluttered, with fewer details. But it also invites people to fill in those details for themselves, which is what I meant by “complicates things.” That requires effort and imagination, and many people simply aren’t up for it. That’s what makes it interesting to me, inviting my fellow humans to participate rather than simply giving them what they want and having them say, “Thanks. I knew it.” Most of your photos invite me to participate, and that's why I love looking at them.

There are ways to create artificial fog. I can send you a fog machine from NYC if you like.
